      Monday 11 March

Uppsala Student Union's anniversary week begins.

      Hip, hip, hooray!

The year was 1849 when Uppsala Student Union was founded by Uppsala's thirteen student nations with the basic purpose of working for all students in Uppsala. Monday, March 11, 2024 is thus an important and historic day - the day Uppsala Student Union turns 175 years old.

It is a great honor to be Sweden's oldest student union and to have worked with student influence for 175 years. This is celebrated with an anniversary week that starts on Monday with an Open House at the student union building, Övre Slottsgatan 7 between 14.00 and 18.00. An exhibition on Uppsala Student Union's somewhat varied anniversary history will be presented, produced by archivist student Ellie Kristoffersson. In the traditional birthday spirit, there will of course be cake, coffee and entertainment.

Uppsala Student Union welcomes you to celebrate this historic birthday with them!

Lecture on the history of the Student Union

Why do student unions exist and how did Uppsala Student Union come about?

On Tuesday evening, March 12, there will be an evening about student influence and the history behind it. Important events and times will be highlighted, both within the union's history and in the outside world and how these have influenced each other throughout history. The evening is a joint event with the University and Student History Society.

      Wednesday 13 March

Panel discussion "175 years of student influence, where are we now?"

How have student unions recovered after the abolition of compulsory student unions? What are the main concerns of today's students and how does a student union best represent them to the university?

Wednesday, March 13, has a primary focus on the present and future of student influence, as a follow-up to Tuesday's historical perspective. With a panel discussion, we will discuss important issues that the union is working on today and the student politics behind such work.

Uppsala Student Union welcomes you to take part in the panel discussion in the University House, Room X, from 15.15-17.00.

Further information is available on Facebook.

Jubilee Ball - Uppsala Student Union Jubilee Week

What is a ball at the castle? It can be dull and boring and... and... really, really wonderful!

With a traditional ball at Uppsala Castle, this Saturday, March 16, 2024, marks the end of Uppsala Student Union's anniversary week. Many travelers from near and far will come to this ball to gather for an evening and celebrate what is the story of many more evenings, days and years of student influence.

The evening consists of a three-course dinner, high class entertainment by Allmänna sången and speeches by important actors in student influence. We end the evening with a ballroom dance to music by the Royal Academic Orchestra.

After the ball, at around 23:30, the gates will be opened to all those who wish to celebrate the anniversary with us until 02:00.
