The main purpose of Studentboet is to make it easier for newly admitted and established students to find accommodation in Uppsala municipality. This is accomplished, among other things, by disseminating information about students' conditions on the housing market to the public, reviewing advertisements from private individuals who wish to rent out their accommodation via Studentboet.se. Another important part of Studentboet's activities is to provide free housing law advice to students.

Studentboet is financed by funds from Uppsala Municipality, Uppsala University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, but the activities are run by Uppsala Student Union.
