The Literati
Student association at the Department of Literature at Uppsala University.
The purpose of the association is to conduct educational and social activities for students at the Department of Literature. Litteraterna organizes several events that contribute to cohesion between students at the department and enable deeper knowledge in literary studies and rhetoric, with a lively book circle and cube tournaments with other student associations at Faculty of Arts as examples.
Litteraterna also regularly invites to pub evenings, often with associated literature quizzes where new and old students socialize with others who study or have studied at the department. In addition, the association also organizes a popular reading night where participants read aloud to each other. These can be poetry, fiction or non-fiction. Other activities offered by the association include cube tournaments, author talks, file circles, writing circles and, not least, a festive gasque every semester. All events are free of charge and mainly aimed at students at the department, but also open to other people interested in literature and rhetoric. The association thus conducts diverse and engaging activities for its members and contributes to a sense of community among the department's students.
In the fall of 2018, Litteraterna founded the journal Roten. Roten accepts contributions in a wide range of genres and topics and encourages discussion and debate among students. The magazine has received awards from the Magazine Convention for "Best Magazine", "Best Layout", "Best Illustrator", "Best Reportage" and "Best Photography".
