The Humanities Section is one of the four sections of the Uppsala Student Union. The sections are all responsible for one of the different fields of study within the Uppsala Student Union's area of activity. The aim of the sections is to bring the activities of the Union closer to the students and thereby make it easier for the students to influence their campus, department or faculty.
What is the Humanities Section?
The Humanities Section is one of the four sections of the Uppsala Student Union. The sections are all responsible for 3 of the faculties within Uppsala Student Union's area of activity. The aim of the sections is to bring the activities of the Union closer to the students and thereby make it easier for students to influence their campus, department or faculty.
The Humanities Section, or HumSek, organises and engages students studying humanities subjects at the Faculty of Languages, History and Philosophy or the Faculty of Theology. Housed in the English Park, the section works to ensure that students have the best possible time studying.
One of HumSek's main tasks is to ensure student representation, i.e. to appoint students to all decision-making or preparatory bodies within the three faculties. You can find out more about HumSec's vacant student representative positions by clicking on "Become a student representative" in the menu above.
HumSek also works to promote the involvement of the Union Associations who are active in the section's field. Associations are central to the Section's activities and much of the Section's work is done in collaboration with them. Most associations are linked to a programme or department and offer a wide range of activities. All information about HumSeks Union Associations can be found below.

Section Council
The Section Council is the highest decision-making body of the Humanities Section. Council members are representatives of the Section's associations, who are also students from the Section's three faculties. Their task is to advance the Section's activities, decide on activities and finances, appoint student representatives and strengthen HumSek's student societies. This is done through regular meetings, section-wide events and by awarding project grants to associations. You can find all the minutes of the section councils under documents.
Study monitoring
Student monitoring is one of the most important missions of the Union. As the name suggests, it is about monitoring studies, more specifically, ensuring that the situation of students at the university is acceptable. At Uppsala Student Union there are two full-time faculty coordinators who work on student influence and advocacy with the university.
The Faculty Coordinators are responsible for ensuring that the quality of the programmes within the section's area of activity is good and that the University complies with the rules and guidelines in place. For example, you can turn to the faculty coordinators for questions concerning student involvement and the quality of your education.
