The SSO is the local representative for students in work environment issues, and therefore forms the basis of Uppsala Student Union's work environment work. Work environment work has two pillars: psychosocial and physical work environment. This includes both the campus and the department's physical environment, and how to treat each other. The SSO should not be a personal representative for students, but report on structural problems.

The SSO is responsible for:

• attend training courses organized by Uppsala University
• participate in Uppsala Student Union SSO training
• take part in meetings and safety rounds invited by the Lead SSO
• share issues or problems that have arisen related to students' working environment
• point out problems and propose solutions in matters concerning the students' working environment
• consider changes to the university's physical premises that affect students
• assess the impact of the changes on students' working environment
• report work environment issues to Uppsala Student Union.
