Uppsala Student Union Almedalen

      Uppsala Student Union Almedalen!

When Almedals Week brought together decision-makers and community leaders on Gotland, Uppsala Student Union was also Uppsala Student Union , represented by Klara (faculty coordinator) and Maja (communications officer).

We attended a panel discussion on inclusion and engagement, and were inspired by campaigns and creative ways to reach people—maybe you’ll see the results of that in the future! Between seminars, we of course also had time for the occasional ice cream, iced coffee in the sun, and, of course, a dip in the ocean. Which was definitely needed in the heat!

Klara participated in the panel discussion “Educated but Unemployable—Who Is Responsible for the Gap?” organized by Bliwa. There, she highlighted the Uppsala Student Union’s perspective that funding needs to increase to allow for more instructor-led time, connections to the workforce, and course development. Without resources, the quality of education and the connection to the workforce suffer. She also emphasized that we need opportunities for internships in all programs, and that students should be able to take an internship as a standalone course. For many, an internship is the first step into the job market and a valuable way to gain experience for their résumés. This is a concrete measure that would reduce the gap between education and the workforce.

In short: Almedalen gave us new insights and renewed energy for the fall!
