Student Representation

Student representation exists to ensure that students have a say in their own education. Student representatives represent the views of students wherever decisions are taken or prepared at the university that affect their education or situation.

As a student representative, you will receive ongoing training and information from the union on how best to carry out your role, and you will have the opportunity to push issues and bring about change. The training is tailored to the needs and wishes of the student representatives. In addition, you will receive support from the other student representatives in the Student Representative Council, from the union's paid and employed staff, and from the university.

What do you get as a student representative? An opportunity to have a real impact, a good merit on your CV, a chance to make contacts both within the university, the union and with other students, learn more about how the university works and of course remuneration for many assignments.

The Programme Council for the Bachelor's Programme in Humanities will consist of two student representatives for year 1, year 2, and year 3, respectively, in order to provide their perspectives on how the programme can develop, maintain high quality, and function well from the first joint programme semester to the sixth and final semester. The program council will be held in consultation with the program coordinator and program group (teachers responsible for courses in semesters one and six). A meeting in April/May for students to discuss and give feedback on various issues related to teaching, administration and information in the two program-specific semesters one and six, and the history-philosophy faculty's course offerings, which students choose their specialization in, as well as overall. As a student representative on the Department Board, you participate in the body's meetings where decisions are made regarding, for example, course syllabi and reading lists, and where other matters are discussed. You may also be consulted on matters concerning quality development, and be invited to pedagogical discussions and planning meetings. The last spring meeting is held after the end of the semester, due to the admission of doctoral students. The Board meets three times per semester, normally on Wednesday mornings. The meetings are 1-1 ½ hours long with no more than the same amount of preparation time (usually much less).

The Intendancy is a cooperative organisation between the institutions and other constituent units. The task of the Management Organisation is to ensure cost-effective coordination of the institutions' support functions for the core activities of education and research in geographically defined areas. This includes, for example, matters relating to the provision of premises and other physical resources, security, AV and videoconferencing facilities, technical-physical working environment and the environment. This may include the renovation, updating and restructuring of study places, facilities and examination halls.
